2003 Programme
Join Frank this September for a walk back in time on a battlefield tour of
Arnhem...
In September 1944 the greatest air armada ever seen lifted 35,000 troops in
1,540 transport aircraft and over 2,000 gliders to drop 65 miles behind the
German lines.
It was designed to be one of the most daring strategic moves of the whole of the
Second World War and from it countless tales of daring and courage have arisen.
The tour takes you to Oosterbeek, where the Airlanding Brigade landed. You will
study the bloody encounters of 1st Border, 10 Para and 156th Para. You visit
Driel, where the Polish Parachute landed several miles from their drop zone to
link up with XXX Corps and 43rd Division, and Arnhem Bridge, where the opening
scenes of the great battle took place. The epic struggles of 2nd Battalion
Parachute Regiment will be relived for you in detail.
